<p><strong>Santa Fe, N.M.</strong> – <strong>September 12, 2010</strong> – The organizers of the Venture Capital in the Rockies conference announced they have selected the region’s 12 most promising startups to deliver elevator pitches on-stage to hundreds of conference-goers. Now in its third year, <a href="http://www.vcirfall.com/">VCIR Fall</a> builds off the continued success of VCIR Winter – the longest-running, largest and most successful VC conference in the Rocky Mountain region. <p>This year’s VCIR Fall conference will be held Sept. 15-17 at the El Dorado Hotel and Spa in Santa Fe, N.M.</p>
<p>“The 12 companies we selected to present at this year’s conference really represent this year’s best and brightest startups,” said Brian Birk, managing partner at Sun Mountain Capital and co-chair of the event. “We’re so excited that Rocky Mountain region has produced such a diverse group of companies that will have a chance to showcase their ideas to the region’s biggest venture capitalists. These companies are a good representation of the tremendous entrepreneurial talent across the region.”</p>
<p>This year’s finalists come from a diverse background – representing IT services, mobile/web design, media imaging, online software, biomedical and information governance solutions.</p>

<p><strong>Graphic.ly</strong> provides an immersive social experience and marketplace around, and within, digital comics. By extending the pop culture experience online, Graphic.ly creates a unique opportunity for mainstream fans and collectors to engage with each other, creators and the content.</p>
<p><strong>Omniar</strong> makes image recognition software that’s capable of identifying a range of objects, including 3D buildings, sculptures and retail items. Omniar returns with information about the object, helping people learn more about their physical surroundings.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">New Mexico-based companies</span></p>
<p><strong>JackRabbit Systems (JRS)</strong> provides its BookDirect Pricing and Availability Search Engine for lodging, events, and special offers to online travel portals such as city and state tourism department websites. Consumers search for pricing and availability and are redirected to the lodging property or event provider to complete the booking. JRS works with over 180 city and state tourism offices including the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority.</p>
<p><strong>nanoMR </strong>develops medical diagnostic products using proprietary immunochemistry technology and sample processing techniques. nanoMR’s first product addresses the blood<strong> </strong>culture market, detecting and identifying bloodstream infections directly from blood in under 2 hours, compared to 2-5 days for blood culture.</p>
<p><strong>Skorpios Technologies</strong> is an early stage company bringing the economies and scale of the Si-industry to the Opto-Electronics market.  Skorpios products are highly differentiated in existing applications and enable a new generation of market applications.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Utah-based companies</span></p>

<p><strong>Wastewater Compliance Systems, Inc</strong>. makes and sells a patented, submerged, aerated bio-reactor called Bio-Dome. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://vcir.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/rockymountain1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-4" title="RockyMountain1" src="http://vcir.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/rockymountain1.jpg?w=300&#038;h=225" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a>The <a href="http://www.rockymountainvca.com/">RMVCA</a> selection committee wrapped up the selection process for the presenting companies to <a href="http://www.vcirfall.com/">VCIR Fall 2010</a> last week.  We had about 70 applicants with a great diversity.  We only had 12 slots available, so it was quite a challenge narrowing the field.</p>
<p>The committee worked through a diligent process, assessing each applicant independently and rolling up the results.  The selection was based on their composite scores, as well as the desire to reflect the region’s greatest opportunities by stage, sector and geography.  Not an easy task.</p>
<p>However, I am here to say that I applaud the results.  I think they reflect the region well and I’m looking forward to spreading the word about the great investment opportunities that exist in the Rocky Mountain region.  At the end of the day, the RMVCA is about serving the entrepreneurs and the VCIR conferences highlight some of the best entrepreneurs and their companies.  Come join us in September 15-17 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to see the presentations!  You can <a href="http://www.vcirfall.com/register/">register here</a>.</p>
